The jacket arrived this week. It is awesome. Perfect shade of light tan with a good touch of red in it. I especially like that.
Even my wife liked it and didn't kill me for buying another flight jacket from you. How many jackets have I bought from you now? At least half a dozen, not counting the B-3, hats and patches. Plus I've recommended you to a number of friends.
Your research dept. may be aware that some of the A-2s, made in the late 1930s I believe, but still issued to the troops until wartime massive production started with numerous companies, had a very distinct red tint to their "russet" leather. These were referred to as "redskins." They were very prized, so naturally "the brass" made a point of insuring that future jackets were a darker brown. The supply system even tried to take some of these jackets from the airmen and re-dyed them - looked pretty crappy too. So whenever a guy had a "redskin" it was a prize. Even today a" redskin" is worth more than any other authentic airtime A-2.

I just received my A2 custom vintage horsehide jacket (with custom pockets inside and blood chit sewn into the living) and am thrilled with the quality and beauty of the jacket. This is the finest jacket I have ever owned—I am especially impressed with the rugged quality of the manufacture and material (this is a heavy jacket, I was surprised). I’m looking forward to years of enjoyment and will be working thru your company for any future maintenance or repair to keep the jacket looking as a nice as possible. I had a 40 regular shipped out and tried it on. It was a bit too tight across the shoulders (I am 168lb, 35" waist, runner build) and I compared all the basic dimensions with another leather motorcycle jacket that is a very nice fit. Then I shipped the "loaner" back with a sketch showing where to make alterations.
The replacement jacket in the darker vintage russet horsehide was completed only two days after my loaner arrived at FlightJacket.
It arrived here two days ago and is fantastic. I now take greater notice of the A-2's that I see other people wearing and they are just pathetic by comparison.
Breaking it in now. Wonder how long it will keep that "new jacket smell" ..... almost as good as a new car!
I had an inside pocket added, but nothing else, so it looks absolutely authentic. Not cheap, but it's true what they say: " you get what you pay for". This one is a keeper!

Purchased it about a year plus ago. Very nicely made jacket. Very high quality. Excellent fit, warm. I bought a 42 regular. It fits me well, 35" waist 5 10, but I better not go above 186lbs or it's gonna be tight across the shoulders. Good incentive for me to keep in shape. You can wear it in very cold weather with a turtlenext. Wore it a lot and it is as nice as the day I bought it.
