MA-1 Nylon Mil. Spec Jacket
- Product Review (submitted on November 20, 2010):
- Alpha Industries really does a fantastic job on their MA-1 jacket, my uncle was an Airforce pilot in Vietnam from 1966-72, when he came home, he had two items from his service, his dog tags, and his MA-1 flight jacket. He still wears it on occasion in cold weather. I've always admired the looks, feel, warmth, and story behind the MA-1 jackets. So, I had to get one for myself, I knew Alpha made high quality reproduction MA-1s, so when my jacket arrived, I compared it to my uncle's 1966 original, apart from the 44 years of wear and tear on the cuffs, collar and waistband, the Alpha MA-1 jacket repro is nearly identical to the original, correct materials, stitching, correct stitch coloring, correct cut, weaving and fit, the pockets, identification label (though the "Alpha Industries" label next to the I.D. label in the left pocket shouldn't be there), the utility pocket and pen holders are correct to the original (though the weaving material the pocket zipper is placed on should be a "dove gray", not sage green (or whichever color jacket you order), that goes for the main zipper panel. I would strongly recommend they change that for further authenticity, other than those minor problems, the Alpha MA-1 is pretty much identical to the original, and a great general purpose utility jacket, it's flight nylon outer shell is fabulous, exact same as the original, so is the quilted Indian Orange nylon lining. I typically swap out my A-2 jacket when in cold weather with my MA-1, it's really a high performance jacket, I highly recommend getting one, it's VERY warm and comfortable, with great durability, this one will last you for years to come.
